Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She belongs to the Robertses' fourth generation to live in the Atlanta area, starting by her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father was enthusiastic about theatre since a young age. As a student of Emory University, he performed in several productions in Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, was cast in the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of Air Force. They married in 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter was an undergraduate at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957 they left the airforce and Walter began studying at Tulane. Walter worked with Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. The family moved in 1960 and moved into Decatur Georgia. The year 1964 was when Walter along with Betty Lou began production on a local Saturday morning children's TV show called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded themselves. In the following year, they established The Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. They welcomed in 1965 two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
